Long Range Precision Rifle

Course Overview

Our Long-Range Precision Rifle – Hunter’s Edition course is designed for hunters who want to ethically and confidently take precise shots at extended distances.

You’ll learn the science and skill behind making accurate long-range shots by understanding ballistics, environmental influences, and precision shooting techniques. Whether you’re targeting game at 200 yards or beyond 800 yards, this course gives you the tools to account for wind, gravity, air resistance, and elevation while maintaining the hunting ethics of a clean, humane shot.

This is a field-focused, practical training program — blending classroom instruction with real-world range application.

🛡️ Safety & Ethical Hunting Practices

  • The 4 Fundamental Rules of firearm safety
  • Field safety and responsible shot selection
  • Ethics of long-range hunting and ensuring clean harvests
  • Safe rifle transportation and storage in hunting environments

🎯 Precision Shooting Fundamentals

  • Proper Shooting Position & Stability – Prone, kneeling, seated, and field rests
  • Natural Point of Aim (NPA) – Eliminating body tension for consistent accuracy
  • Trigger Control – Crisp, predictable press for minimal rifle disturbance
  • Breathing Control – Timing your shot within natural respiratory pauses
  • Follow-Through – Maintaining sight picture after the shot for corrections

🔄 Ballistics & Environmental Factors

  • Gravity – Understanding bullet drop over distance
  • Wind – Reading wind speed and direction, using mirage, vegetation, and range indicators
  • Air Resistance (Drag) – How bullet shape, velocity, and atmosphere affect trajectory
  • Velocity & Bullet Selection – Matching ammunition to rifle and target species
  • Elevation & Angle Shooting – Adjusting shots for uphill and downhill scenarios
  • Temperature, Humidity, and Air Density – How weather changes point of impact

🛡️ Calculating the Shot

  • Using ballistic calculators and data cards
  • MOA & MRAD Adjustments – Understanding and dialing turrets for distance
  • Determining holdovers and wind holds
  • Practical field math for hunters without electronics
  • Confirming zero and tracking impacts at multiple distances

🔄 RANGE DRILLS & TRAINING EXERCISES

  • Establishing a 100-yard zero and verifying rifle/ammo performance
  • Shooting at known and unknown distances
  • Wind reading and correction drills
  • Elevation change and angle shooting practice
  • Engaging reactive steel and paper targets for instant feedback
  • Recording ballistic DOPE (Data On Previous Engagements) for hunting rifle
